PERCOLATOR
Tried and true, if you need to make coffee while camping, a simple percolator is a time tested method. With the right setup, you can even make campfire coffee, no stove necessary.
Percolators are a great way to make large amounts of coffee with any heat source. However, they can be slow and hard to clean, and if you let it sit too long, the coffee will get cold, and it's hard to reheat.
Recommended Grind: Coarse
Recommended Coffee: Rock Slider
FRENCH PRESS
Due to the popularity of products like the Jet-Boil, the French Press has made it's way into many camp kitchens as a way to brew coffee while camping. It's easy and convenient to make coffee at camp, but the French Press is one of the hardest ways to make coffee consistently.
The most important thing with a French Press is to start with coarse ground coffee (like flaky sea salt.) Standard grinds from a grocery store will be bitter! Add your hot water and grounds, stir for 30 seconds, then let it rest for 3-4 minutes before pressing. Wait to long, and it will be bitter. Too short, and it will be weak.
Recommended Grind: Coarse
Recommended Coffee: 4-Low
EXPEDITION FILTERS
When we get asked how to make coffee while camping, we always point to our Expedition Filters. They brew an amazing cup of pour over anywhere, and all you need is hot water, coffee grounds and a cup. Simply add grounds until the filter is about half full, then slowly pour hot water (slightly less than boiling) over the top until satisfied.
Need to make a lot? Give everyone their own filter and let them DIY. Easy as that. Cleanup is even easier - just throw them in the campfire, cat hole or garbage. No rinsing required. Get them in our Adventure Pack with your favorite Beadlock Coffee for making coffee at camp.
